The City of Syracuse held a special council meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Council members in attendance voted unanimously to accept bids to remove asbestos, demo property and complete purchase on the property at 876 8th Street in Syracuse.

A bid from Bockmann, Inc. in the amount of $3,659 was approved for asbestos abatement and a bid from Dynamic Dirtworks & Demolition LLC in the amount of $16,730 was approved for the demolition. The demolition bid includes demolishing the structure, hauling it along with the foundation away and compact fill of the foundation.

The Council also voted to waive conditions in the Purchase Agreement and authorize the mayor to sign closing documents.

City officials said the house was an ongoing nuisance and when it came up for sale they saw it as an opportunity. They cited a recent water break that further deteriorated the house.

Council member Wesley Halvorsen was absent.

The council also approved Resolution No. 25-07 authorizing the mayor to sign a Proclamation acknowledging ArborDay for Tree City USA designation.
