At the Syracuse City Council meeting July 9, 2025, the council approved Resolution No. 25-14 making 7th Street in front of the Syracuse Elementary School from Plum to Chestnut Streets a one-way street on school days Monday-Friday.
Representing Syracuse Rescue, Chief Tim Wilson, received permission to proceed with the purchase of a LUCAS device, a device that assists first responders in administrating automated chest compression. He explained one of the two LUCAS devices the service has is at the end of its useful life and there is an opportunity to trade it in. Wilson also updated the council on runs through June 30th. To date, Syracuse Rescue has been on a total of 194 calls. At this time last year, they had been on 231 calls. Of the 194 calls, 119 were 911 calls compared to 128 at this same time last year. Transfers to-date account for 72 calls compared to 99 last year. There have been two intercepts this year compared to one last year and one stand by this year.
Council Member Nate Patton complimented Library Director Melissa Juilfs and library staff saying they were doing a great job.
Repairs in the amount of $2,982.10 to the Z960M John Deere Zero Turn Mower were approved. The council requested a list of equipment along with purchase dates and would also like to compare the cost of leasing equipment.
City Street Superintendent, Justin Stark, led a discussion on potential water and sewer improvements in the Antes Subdivision.
Gary Liesemeyer presented the council with a file containing signatures of 136 residents who are against repealing or changing ordinances that would allow for chickens in city limits.
