Syracuse City Council conducts Aug. 13 meeting

Budgets for 2025-2026 were approved at the Syracuse City Council meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025. The council approved a one-year proposal from Julie Bauman, CPA for 2025 audit services.

The following Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) officers were accepted: Fire Chief, Keith McWilliams; Assistant Fire Chiefs, Craig Hemje, Darin Lintner and Liza Godsey; Foreman Adam Holtz; Foreman, Tim Seelhoff; President, Thomas Neemann; Secretary, Matt Weddingfeld; and Treasurer, Justin Apel. The Rural approved the offices July 14, 2025. Max Brammier was approved as a new SVFD member.

Chris Lutjemeyer from AKRS answered questions and got information on the city’s mower replacement plan and including owning versus leasing. A new gazebo in the amount of $12,935 was approved. It will be built where the previous gazebo was located. Rick Nordhues with MAR Enterprises, LLC will build the gazebo at a cost of $7,750 while Baragary Construction, Inc. will pour the concrete pad at a cost of $5,185. Resolution No. 25-15 approved an Exclusive License Agreement between the City and Pepsi.

Under Public Works, Resolution No. 25-16 approved Municipal Annual Certification of Program Compliance, an annual DOT requirement. Resolution No. 25-17 approved Property Insurance Renewal including workman’s comp from the League Association of Risk Management. The renewal was for three years and included a five-percent discount. Resolution No. 25-18 was approved granting Windstream Right-of-Way Request #38508.
