Darlene F. Smith, 92, formerly of Cook

Darlene F. Smith, 92, of Syracuse, formerly of Cook, passed away on Jan. 20, 2020, at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center. She was born on April 26, 1927, to Elmer & Hattie (Bailey) Johnson near Douglas.
Darlene graduated from Palmyra High School in 1944.
She married Robert Smith on Nov. 20, 1944, at her parents’ home in Palmyra.
Darlene worked alongside Robert on the farm. She enjoyed cooking, being outdoors and always had a big vegetable garden.
She is survived by her children: Cheryl (Barney) Doeden of Syracuse, Daryl Smith and Ron Novak of Columbus, Ron (Colleen) Smith of Cook; grandchildren: Jim Ehmen, Lori (Troy) Berner, Julie Smith and Gerald Focken, Rick Smith and Shelia Focken; four great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Norma Smith; also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister: Wilma (Jake) Clem along with numerous brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law.
Funeral services were to be held on Friday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ (Osage) in rural Cook. Burial was to be held at 2 p.m. at the Rosewood Cemetery in Palmyra.
Visitation was to be
held on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
