Girl Scout learning at Syracuse

Syracuse area Girl Scouts recently came together and spent an afternoon learning.  Miss Nebraska United States Agriculture 2019, Anna Bohlken, a sophomore at the University of Nebraska majoring in Agriculture and former Girl Scout, was the special guest speaker and encouraged girls to set goals and go after their dreams.

Daisies (kindergarten and first graders), Brownies (2nd and 3rd graders) and Juniors (4th and 5th graders) learned about selling Girl Scout cookies and earned requirements for their Cookie Entrepreneur Family pins and cookie and financial literacy badges.

They learned about the various types of cookies and tried them; why they sell cookies which to learn five business skills – goal setting, decision making, money management, business ethics and people skills: and set their individual and troop goals for what they will do with the profits they earn.  Additionally, girls learned to count money, stay safe and more.

Girl Scout cookies went on sale Feb. 7 and will be on sale through March 15.  To support the largest girl run company in the world and purchase cookies, reach out to a local leader or call 402-558-8189 to be put in touch with a local Girl Scout.  Girls ended the afternoon with snacks and singing Girl Scout songs. The event was led by local Girl Scout leaders Jen Foley, Jen Royal, Sheila Shramek and Kelly Hauschild.
