Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Grant Stubbendeck hit a two RBI single to give Syracuse the lead as the Post 100 Juniors came away with a 5-2 victory in the first round of districts on Friday, July 12, at Wymore.

Owen Wander got Syracuse going in the fifth with a one out single to right field.

Sawyer Brammier was hit by pitch and Syracuse had runners on first and second.

With two outs, Stubbendeck singled to center field that scored two runs and Syracuse carried a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Griffin Goering scored from third base on a balk by the Wymore pitcher.

Later in the inning, Stubbendeck hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Wander and Syracuse increased it’s lead 5-1.

Wymore tacked on a run in the top of the seventh, and with two outs, Micah Harvey struck out the last hitter.

Syracuse scored five runs on five hits. Wymore scored two runs on seven hits.

Stubbendeck went 3-for-4 with two singles, double and three RBI; Wander and Cooper Carlson, each with singles.

Carlson, Harvey and Dalton Leefers combined for the pitching totals. Carlson gave up one run on four hits and struck out seven. Leefers allowed two hits, one run, and struck out two in 2.1 innings. Harvey tossed .2 innings and allowed one hit.

Syracuse will face Tecumseh on Saturday, July 13, starting at 8 p.m. at Wymore.
