The Syracuse Post 100 Juniors finished the last regular season game with a 10-2 win against Falls City where Cooper Carlson went 3-for-4 on Tuesday, July 9, at Syracuse.

Syracuse will enter districts at Wymore on July 12-16 as the No. 2 seed.

The Syracuse Juniors have a deep pitching unit that has accumulated a 2.65 team ERA.

“Our pitchers throw strikes and give our team a chance to play defense,” Coach Mark Bayliss said. “With our pitching, we are going to be just as deep as anybody. We have three or four guys we are confident throwing against anybody and we have a lot of guys that can come in, back them up, and throw strikes.”

Against Falls City, Syracuse had a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third.

With two runners on base, Braden LaFollette ripped a two RBI double and Micah Harvey hit into a fielder’s choice that scored a run and Syracuse had a 5-1 advantage.

Carlson led off the bottom of the fourth with a line drive double in the gap followed by a Robert Shanks single.

Dalton Leefers scored a run on a fielder’s choice and two more Syracuse runs came across due to a Falls City error, and the Post 100 Juniors had a 9-2 lead.

With one out in the fifth, Carlson roped a single to right field and later scored on a RBI single by Shanks.

In the bottom of the sixth, and the mercy rule in sight, Micah Harvey stood at third. Falls City threw a passed ball and Harvey sprinted home for the score and Syracuse finished the regular season with 13 wins.

Carlson had two singles and a double in this contest; Shanks, two singles; La Follette, double; Sawyer Brammier, Owen Wander and Leefers, each with a single.

Carlson picked up the win for Syracuse. Carlson tossed 3.2 innings and allowed three hits, two runs, one earned and struck out five. Leefers allowed one hit in two innings of work and Harvey threw .1 inning.

“With the scheduled we have played, with some tough teams, I think we are in a good area with our pitching and defense,” Bayliss said.  “We like our chances as good as anybody.”

Syracuse will face Wymore on Friday, July 12, at Wymore. Game time: 8:00 p.m.
