In the semi-final game, the S-D-A Lady Rockets defeated Platteview, 53-36, on Friday, January 25, during the NCC tournament.

Trailing by one in the first quarter, Sarah Moss made a nice pass down court to Meredith Clark for the score with 12 seconds left, and the Rockets took the, 11-10 lead.


The Rocket defense stepped up in the second quarter and held the Trojans to, four, second quarter points.  On the offensive side, Lily Vollerstsen made a nice turn around jump shot followed by a solid floater by Halle Wilhelm, and the Rockets had a, 19-14 advantage.  Towards the end of the half, Lauren Meyer knocked down two free-throws and S-D-A went into half with a seven point lead.


S-D-A went on a quick, 5-0 run, as Sarah Moss opened the third by draining a three-pointer from the corner, and Grace Damme knocked down a couple of free-throws.  Platteview got within two points, 28-26, and that’s when Brooklyn Nordhues hit a three from the wing.  With over a minute left in the third, Lauren Siefken swished a long jump shot and the Rockets had a, 35-29, third quarter lead.


In the fourth quarter, and the Rockets leading by seven, Sarah Moss hit her second three on the evening to give S-D-A a ten point lead.  Jessie Moss entered the game and added four points to close out the contest and S-D-A won, by 17.


“Our defensive rebounding was really big in the second half,” Coach Andrew Pryor said.
Platteview is a team that will put pressure on team’s and challenge their opponents.  “When we got the ball in the middle, (during the full court pressure) we did just fine,” Pryor said.  “During the timeouts, I told the girls we were doing more positive things than bad.”


Clark finished the game with 17 points; Sarah Moss, nine; Nordhues, seven; Halle Wilhelm, six; Meyer and Jessie Moss, four each; Damme, Siefken, and Vollertsen, two each.

In the championship game of the NCC tournament on Saturday, January 26, the Rockets lost to the second ranked, Wahoo Warriors, 47-26.
