Lawrence White also sidelined

Iowa State defensive tackle Ray Lima, who has been a catalyst for the defensive front the last two seasons, won’t play tonight against No. 6 West Virginia, an ISU spokesperson said.

Lima, 6-foot-3 and 302 pounds, suffered a concussion last week in the Cyclones’ (2-3, 1-2) win at Oklahoma State. He had three tackles.

Since his arrival in Ames, Lima has been instrumental in helping the defense become one of the stingiest units in the Big 12 and has made life easier on the linebackers and secondary. He has 14 tackles with two tackles for loss this season.

Redshirt freshman Tucker Robertson is next in line behind Lima on the depth chart, but junior Jamahl Johnson could slide to the middle. The task of replacing Lima is magnified given the Mountaineers’ (5-0, 3-0) prowess on offense, led by Heisman Trophy contender Will Grier at quarterback.

Safety Lawrence White will also miss the game due to an ankle injury.
