Syracuse trailed by one run heading into the bottom of the sixth, when the Post 100 seniors scored two runs to take the lead, and eventually win the game 4 to 3 against Crete on Monday, July 23, and advance to the district championship.

Syracuse lost a hard fought game against Hickman on Sunday, in a game that went 12 innings.  The Post 100 seniors have tallied 33 innings of ball in four games.

Syracuse got off to a slow start with a few errors, but with Brendon Lyon throwing strikes, the energy level seemed to shift.
In the first inning, Crete jumped out to a 2-0 lead.  Crete would add to it’s lead when they hit a solo HR in the third, and that’s when Syracuse settled down and took control.

Zane Weiler found himself at second base after reaching on an error in the bottom half of the third inning.  Trevor Brinkman nailed a RBI single to get Syracuse on the board.  Later in the inning, Lyon drew a walk and Christian Frederick hit a ball up the middle that the shortstop could not handle and Lyon was called safe a second.  Brinkman showed heads up base running and took off home for the score, and the Post 100 seniors trailed 3-2.

In the bottom half of the sixth inning, Ethan Zastera crushed a one out double to the wall followed by a hard single by Mitchell McWilliams.  With runners at second and third and two outs, Weiler hit a ground ball to short stop and the fielder threw the ball over the first baseman's head and pinch runner, Tanner Loecker and McWilliams came home to score and Syracuse led 4-3.

After Lyon got two outs in the top half of the seventh, Jake Gorton came in to close the game.  Crete had the tying run on third and Gorton was able to get the Crete batter to pop out to Frederick and the Post 100 seniors won 4-3 and earned a place in the district championship game.

Hitting: Zastera, double: Monty Roberts, Kelson Driever, McWilliams, and Brinkman, each with singles.
RBI: Brinkman, one.
Runs scored: Weiler, Brinkman, Loecker, and McWilliams, one each.

Lyon got the win for Syracuse.  Lyon allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits, and struck out four in 6.2 innings.
Gorton got the save by throwing .1 inning.

Syracuse (3-1) will face Hickman (4-0) in the district championship on Tuesday, July 24, at Beatrice, beginning at 5:30 p.m.  If Syracuse wins, a second game will be played at 8 p.m.
