Valparaiso 7 Syracuse 6

In game two on the day, Syracuse was down 3-1 when Mitchell McWilliams hit a three-run HR in the bottom of the fourth, but regrettably Syracuse could not hold on to the lead and lost 7-6.

The Post 100 Seniors were not down for too long when McWilliams hustled down first and beat out the throw on an infield single in the bottom of the sixth.  Weiler laid down a nice sacrifice bunt to advance McWilliams.  Valparaiso made a wild throw down to third base later in the inning and McWilliams scored to tie the game 5 to 5.

In the top half of the seventh, Valparaiso scored two runs to regain the lead 7-5.

Syracuse had one more chance when Luke Wilkinson hit an infield single to score Frederick.

With two outs, Syracuse flew out to end the game.

As districts approach, many senior teams throughout the area are scrambling to get games in, so being able to participate in the Springfield tournament, Coach Mark Bayliss realizes the importance of playing in these types of games.  “It’s important because it gives us a chance to work in some pitching and try to get some guys some innings that are going to throw in the tournament,” Bayliss said.

On Friday night, July 13, Syracuse lost in the bottom half of the seventh to Lincoln Northstar 7-6.  “It was a good ball game and we played well,” Bayliss said.

Bayliss went on to talk about his teams performance today and how they were able to jump out on Omaha Northwest early and with Frederick on the mound they just couldn’t handle him.

In their contest against Valparaiso, Driever struggled a little in the first inning, but was able to settle down and throw four quality innings and struck out seven.
