In the Southern Division championship game of the SENBC tournament, the Syracuse Post 100 seniors lost a 5-4 heart breaker to Nebraska City on Friday, June 29, at Auburn.

Syracuse jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead when Trevor Brinkman led off with a walk and  Brendon Lyon singled to center field.  Christian Frederick stepped up and hit a two RBI triple and later scored on a sacrifice RBI by Izaak Prater.


Prater came up again in the bottom half of the fourth and nailed a double to left field to score Lyon, and Syracuse increased it’s lead by four runs.  


Christian started for Syracuse, and cruised through six innings.  In the top of the seventh, Syracuse brought in Lyon to close the game, but NC got a rally started and scored five runs to take a one run lead behind a Garrett Bassinger three-run HR.


Syracuse had one more at bat in the bottom of the seventh.  With the tieing run on second, Syracuse grounded out to the pitcher and NC won 5-4.


Frederick started on the hill for Syracuse and allowed no runs on four hits and struck out 11 in six innings.  Lyon received the loss by throwing .1 innings and surrendered five runs on four hits.


Hitting: Frederick, single, triple, two RBI, run scored; Prater, double, two RBI; Lyon, single, two runs scored; Zane Weiler, double; Mitchell McWilliams, Ethan Zastera, each with singles; Brinkman, run scored.


Syracuse went on to beat Louisville 6-1 on Saturday to place third in the SENBC tournament on Sunday, July 1.


Syracuse will be at home on Tuesday, July 3, to face Nebraska City for the Pink Out game.  Both juniors and seniors will participate. Game times are 1 pm and 3:30 pm.
