Syracuse pitcher, Christian Frederick, allowed no runs on one hit while striking out 11 in five innings of work as the Post 100 Seniors defeated Adams 8-0 on Saturday, June 23, at Syracuse.
The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of third inning when Kelson Driever drew a walk and eventually found himself on third base with no outs. Trevor Brinkman, who had a three RBI day, hit a sacrifice fly and Syracuse took a 1-0 lead.
Brinkman increased the lead by drilling a two RBI double to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning. Later in the inning, Frederick stepped to the plate with two runners on and blasted a three-run HR to left center field and Syracuse had a comfortable 6-0 advantage.
Trevor Brinkman came in for relief duties in the top half of the sixth inning. Adams had runners on second and first with one out. Syracuse turned a nice 1-6-3 double play to get themselves out of the inning.
Frederick came up again in the bottom of the sixth and smacked a RBI double and with Brendon Lyon on third, Izaak Prater got a sacrifice RBI by hitting a deep fly ball to right field as Lyon tagged from third to score and the game ended due to the mercy rule.
Frederick took care of business on the mound and at the plate. “He’s just a good all around player,” Coach Mark Bayliss said. “When he is around the zone and is on, he is about as tough as there is in the area.”
Frederick led Syracuse in hitting by going 3-for-4 and four RBI and Brinkman managed three RBI. Coach Bayliss said that Brinkman had some key hits and had the teams first three RBI and Christian had the big three-run HR. “Those two guys carried us offensively,” said Bayliss.
Frederick earned the win on the hill.
Hitting: Frederick, single, double, HR, four RBI; Brinkman, Double, three RBI; Prater, RBI.
