Sam Pester had a solid night at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a triple, two singles, and two RBI against Cass County Central Crush, as Syracuse Softball won 9-3 on Thursday, June 22, at Nebraska City.

In the top of the first inning, Suzy Shanks was hit by the pitch followed by a hard single by Sydney Wellsandt.  Sam Pester hit a sacrifice RBI and Syracuse led 1-0.  Later in the inning, Layni Nannen reached on an error and another run came across to give Syracuse a 2-0 lead.

Nannen led off the top half of the fourth with a hard line drive single.  Vanessa Weiler hit a solid one out single.  With the bases loaded and one out, Taylor Sherwin hit a sacrifice RBI and Syracuse ended the inning with a 3-1 edge.

In the fifth, Nannen drilled a hard ground ball RBI single up the middle.
With the score 4-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Cass County Central hit a RBI double to get within one run.

Brynn Krieger led off with a hard single in the top of the sixth,  Grace Damme drove a ball to right field, and the CCC right fielder couldn’t handle it and Damme sped all the way around the bases to score and increase the lead to 7-3.  Sam Pester hit an RBI single and with the bases loaded, Syracuse tacked on another run and went on to win 9-3.

Nannen earned the win for Syracuse.  Nannen allowed one run in three innings of work.  Wellsandt got the save by throwing three innings and surrendered two runs.
