The Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca golf team placed 10th at the State Golf Tournament where Brendon Lyon shot a two day total score of 164 on May, 22-23 at the Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus, NE.

“The state tournament was an unforgettable experience for all the golfers,” Coach Sallie Agena said.  “It was a great feeling for all of them to meet the goal that they set at the end of last year’s season to take them to state.”

Quail Run was definitely a new atmosphere for the Rockets, who have never played on the course until a practice round on Monday.  Brendon Lyon showed great consistency by turning in a card of 82 on Tuesday and followed with the same score on Wednesday.  Pierce Agena came in with the second best score on the team.  On the first day, Agena turned in a 85 and on day two scored an 87.  Grant Hallstrom settled down on the second day of action by carding an 85 after scoring a 94 on Tuesday.  Kobe Buller shot a 103 on the first day and a 100 on day two.  Josh Fishpaw carded a 103 on day one and a 102 on Wednesday.
Coach John Agena stated that although we had no state medalists, the boys should be very proud of their performance as a team, and as the smallest school in Class B, it was exciting to finish as the No.10 team in state.

Josh Fishpaw will be the one varsity player returning for the 2019 season.  S-D-A has four seniors that will be moving on.  Those players include; Pierce Agena, Kobe Buller, Grant Hallstrom, and Brendon Lyons.  Sallie Agena said that these men have been tremendous leaders and athletes for the Rocket Golf team and most importantly they have shown great character throughout their entire  high school career on this team and for that we commend them for their actions.

This will be the last year that coaches, Sallie and John Agena will be coaching boys golf.
“John and I have enjoyed our time as coaches for the boys team over the past 6 seasons and wish the team well as they begin with their new coach, Micah Buller for the upcoming 2019 boys golf season,” Sallie Agena said.
