A second half surge powered rated Wahoo to a 62-21 win over the Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca football team on Friday night.
Touchdown runs of 25 and four yards had Wahoo ahead 14-0 early on, but the Rockets fought back nicely as quarterback Trevor Brinkman found Jake Heitkamp on a 25-yard scoring pass and Jon Cox on a 78-yard hook up.
A Brendon Lyon point after kick after the Heitkamp touchdown had the score at 14-13.
Wahoo closed the quarter out by posting a 75-yard scoring pass and a 10-yard scoring run. A trio of third quarter touchdowns and a pair of fourth quarter scores allowed Wahoo to stretch its lead.
Christian Frederick had a 37-yard scoring reception from Brinkman and Max Kuhr rushed in for two points to complete the scoring in the game.
For the contest, Brinkman connected on eight passes for 180 yards, three scores and no picks.
Rushing wise, the Rockets were led by Mitch McWilliams, 54 yards. Kuhr had 30, while Frederick had 20 and Cox had 10.
Cox also had two grabs and 77 pass receiving yards. Heitkamp caught four and racked up 65 yards.
Frederick had the one 37-yard grab.
McWilliams had two sacks, while Logan Mueller had nine total tackles and Caleb Lefferdink had a sack to lead the Rockets' defensively.
Wahoo advanced its record to 7-0 and was rated No. 2 in the latest poll by the Lincoln Journal Star.
