The Syracuse Rocket golf team teed off an impressive week with back-to-back second-place finishes in two competitive meets, showing grit, growth, and a whole lot of promise on the fairways.
Tuesday, April 15 — Kirkman’s Lakeview Golf Course, Humboldt
In their first-ever outing at Kirkman’s Lakeview Golf Course during the HTRS Invitational, the Rockets quickly adapted to the course’s expansive greens and ideal conditions. Leading the way was Brennan Schroeder, who carded a solid 80, highlighted by a sizzling back nine of 37. Mason Lintz wasn’t far behind, firing a consistent 40-41 for 81, which earned him an individual third-place medal. Wyatt Higgins also broke into the top ten with an 85, good for ninth place. Carter Kreifels contributed a steady 89 to round out the team’s score of 335—just six strokes shy of tournament champions Johnson County Central, who edged out the competition with 329.
Thursday, April 17 — Wildwood Golf Course, Nebraska City
The varsity squad hit the links again on Thursday at Wildwood Golf Course in Nebraska City, battling gusty conditions and another stacked ten-team field. Mason Lintz led the Rockets with a gritty performance, rebounding from a 43 on the front with a scorching 2-under 34 on the back nine to post a 77—earning him his first gold medal of the season. Wyatt Higgins continued his strong play with an 84 for seventh place, and Schroeder added an 87 for 12th. Cade Stephenson chipped in a 93, bringing the team total to 341, again earning Syracuse a runner-up finish behind Johnson County Central.
With balanced contributions from all members and consistent top finishes, the Rocket golfers are hitting their stride early in the season and look poised for more success as they continue tournament play.
