Robert Donald Tams

Robert Donald Tams went to be with the Lord on January26, 2022 at the age of 83 years. He died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family, at his home in Grand Island, NE. He was born on February 13.1938 to Robert Clem and Mildred (Robertson)Tams on a ranch near Ewing, NE. He grew up on ranches in the Sandhills of Nebraska. He was involved in 4-H, FFA, and various sports in HighSchool. He played basketball, baseball and was in track. He also boxed with the Jr. Golden Gloves boxing club. Bob graduated from Ewing High School in 1957. He attended Wesleyan College in Lincoln and Grace College of the Bible in Omaha. He served in the National Guards from 1955 to 1957 in O’Neill, NE. He married in1959 and had 4 children, living in Norfolk, Lincoln and Omaha. He married again in 1967 and had 2 more children. They bought a farm near Dunbar, NE, later moving to Cook, NE, where they opened Tamy Can Do Feeds. He married one last time, in 2008, gaining 8more children and residing in Omaha, NE. His passions revolved around church, community and business. He was a founding member of Syracuse Bible Church, serving as Elder, teaching Sunday School and a leader for Awana’s Club. He sup-ported various missionaries, Navigators Association and Promise Keepers. He consistently shared the gospel of Jesus Christ and hosted various Bible Studies in his home. Bob enjoyed the out-doors, fishing and hunting. He loved to travel and visit with family and friends, attending and hosting family reunions. He served in various community organizations including Jaycees, Lion’s Club, the Chamber of Commerce and the Nebraska Pork Producers. Bob later volunteered with the Cook Rescue Squad. He took up the hobby of woodcarving later in life and was a member of Lincoln and Omaha Woodcarvers groups. He opened a business in Cook Ne in1978 known as the Tamy Company. He invested much of his time, talent and energy into serving the farmers and ranchers in a five state area. While living in Omaha he did volunteer work with the Veterans Group and Goodwill, driving shuttle vans. Funeral services were held Monday, January 31st at the Syracuse Bible Church, followed by interment at the Cook Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home Facebook page. Pallbearers were grandsons, Dusty Williams, Nathan Tams, Treven Tams, William, Andrew, Joshua and Jacob Harris. Honorary grandson, Ryan Byrne. He is survived by his first wife, brother Jim (Sandy) Tams of Sioux Falls, SD, sisters Janelle (Dusty) Parker of Kearney and Donna(Scott) Binderup of Minden, sister-in-law Kitsi White of Yuma, AZ, and brother-in-law Leon Allemang of Lincoln. He is survived by children Peggy (Roger) Williams of Cook, David (Deb) Tams of Cook, Cathy (Bob) Harris of Grand Island, Robert Michael (Amy)Tams of Cook, Tracy Brinkman of Lincoln, Ted (Angie) Tams of Cook, Steve (Cherise) Bryne of Florida, Nancy (Bill) Minturn of Omaha, Kathy (Curt) Jones of Omaha, John (Cindy) Byrne of Omaha, Theresa (Romaine) Sanga of Omaha, Tim (Undine) Byrne of Florida, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gerald Tams and Sister Carolyn Allemang; wife Barbara (Sanders), wife Anne (Wegener)Byrne, her daughters Ellen Kay, and Susan and son-in-law, Butch Stites, 3 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild.
