Syracuse - Gaynell M. Shufflebarger, 71 of Syracuse, NE, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021 in Lincoln. She was born on April 11, 1950 to Elmer & Opal (Nickerson) Hoyt in Tribune, KS. She graduated as a Syracuse Kansas Bulldog in the class of 1968 and then attended Emporia University for nursing.
Gaynell married Steve Shufflebarger on June 16, 1990 in Everest, KS. She worked for the Horton Pharmacy for 17 years as well as a secretary for the soil conservation district in Syracuse, KS and at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City. Gaynell donated her time as an advocate for domestic abuse in Syracuse Kansas, was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church and spent many years teaching catechism. She loved her horses, flowers, and garden from which she did a lot of canning. Gaynell also served as a baseball coach and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her Husband: Steve Shufflebarger of Syracuse; Sons: Eric Shaw of Meriden, KS, Ryan Shaw of Powhattan, KS; Grandchildren: Mattie, Zach, Zach, Christian, Jasmine, Alexis, Charlie & Emma; Great Grandchildren: Jesse, Bowdy & Penelope; Sister: Fonda Scroggins of Aurora, CO; also nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Sister: Opal Jeanne Pollart & Brother: Robert.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 28th at 2 P.M. MT at the Syracuse Cemetery in Syracuse, KS.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 26th from 1 P.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting friends from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse, NE.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
