Ernest H. Schmucker, age 86, of Unadilla, passed away at home on August 2, 2019 with family at his side. He was born January 29, 1933 in Swanton, NE to Ernest and Erma Schmucker. Ernie worked for Burlington railroad prior to enlisting in the Navy where he served during the Korean War. When he returned home he continued to work for the railroad retiring after 42 years of service. Ernie married Catherine Lucille Means on June 26, 1958. They had 56 loving years of marriage before Lucy passed in 2015. They were blessed with 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Ernie touched so many lives. He always said, "He never met anyone that wasn't his friend." He loved working with wood making toys, cribbage boards and wind chimes to mention a few of his projects. He gave so many of his finished projects away. He loved to play cards and he belonged to the Unadilla cribbage club.
Left to cherish his memories are his children and their families; Mary Sue (Doug) Simon, their daughter Sarah (Seth) Teager with their son Julien, and their daughter Hannah (Nick) Cooley; Cay Rowley, her daughter Tia Smith, her son Christopher and her daughter Cayla with her sons Damien and Mason and her daughter Aurora; Jeff (Stacy) Schmucker their daughter Jennifer Dudley with her son Gage, their daughter Kelsey and their sons Ryan and Eric; Jim Schmucker, his daughter Erin (Sam) Derrick and his son Scott; Todd (Eileen) Schmucker, their sons Ethan and Aaron; his sister Betty (Connie) Engelkes, brother Earl (Donna) Schmucker; brother-in-law Allen Hormandl, sister-in-law Phyllis Schmucker, bother/sister-in-law Ernie and Mary Schuetze, bother/sister-in-law Pat and Neva Means, sister-in-law Marlene Means, sister-in-law Laurie Doane and sister-in-law Avis Ray and his many nieces and nephews with their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lucy on April 23, 2015; his bothers Joe and George; his sisters Nancy, Shirley and Peggy; his son-in-law Jim Smith, and his daughter-in-law Tammi Wilke-Schmucker.
Memorial services to be held on Saturday, August 24th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Duncan Building in Unadilla with burial in the Unadilla Cemetery following. The Duncan Building is next door to the bank on main street.
