Down 3 to 0 heading into the fourth inning, the S-D-A Rockets poured on 11 runs in two innings to get the 11-3 victory over the Conestoga Cougars on Thursday, August 30, at Syracuse.

The Rockets scored 11 runs in two innings, which eventually lead to the mercy rule, and the game came to a close in five innings.  “”With these girls, hits are contagious, and once they get going, they just don’t stop,” Coach Gregg Wiebusch said.

Pitcher, Sydney Wellsandt had a superb night in the circle, allowing just three hits.  “Sydney is one of the kids that put a ton of time in during the off season,” Wiebusch said.  “This is what we came to expect.”

In the second inning, the Cougars scored three runs to take an early lead.

In the fourth inning, the Rockets bats got hot.  Suzy Shanks ripped a two out single to left field with a runner on base.  Megan Reuter, who contributed four RBI this game, drilled a two RBI single to get the Rockets within one run.  Wellsandt stepped up and hit a solid RBI single to tie the game.

Sam Pester roped a single to left field and Brynn Krieger followed with a walk.  Madison Mueller drove in a run with a hard hit single to left field.  With the bases loaded, Reuter came to the plate again and delivered a hard hit ball to right field to score two more runs.  Wellsandt crushed  a two RBI double to centerfield, and the Rockets lead 8-3.

After Brooke Carlson reached on an error, Lauren Siefken drove the ball to deep left field and hustled all the way around to score for a three run, inside the park HR.

S-D-A recorded 12 hits in this contest, and Coach Wiebusch said that they just have to keep their head to the grindstone and keep playing.
