1. Attend the Old Settler's Picnic in Palmyra.

The annual Old Settler's Picnic in Palmyra gets underway this afternoon (June 8) with dinner in the park from 5 to 8 p.m., bingo at the park from 7 to 9 p.m. and a fireworks display at dusk. Saturday's activities include a fun run/walk at 8 a.m., Civil War re-enactments and living history displays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. , a sand volleyball tournament at 10:30 a.m., and a parade at 5 p.m. Call 402-470-2611 for more information.

2. Visit Trails West Day in Nebraska City.

The Old Freighters Museum, 409 N. 14th St., will host “Trails West Day” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow (June 9). Events will include horse-drawn wagon rides, living history demonstrations, live music and kids' activities. This year's activities commemmorate the 175th anniversary of the Oregon Trail. The event is free and open to the public, thanks to financial support from the Nebraska City Walmart.

3. Watch a free movie in Nebraska City.

The Summer Movie Series continues tomorrow night (June 9) in downtown Nebraska City with the showing of “Shark Tale” at dusk in the Sunken Parking Lot in the 700 block of Central Avenue. Moviegoers should bring their own chairs or blankets. Snacks will be available for purchase.
