Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca played in the Class C-1 district softball tourney at Auburn last week. After falling in its first game against Falls City, 12-1, the Rockets saw their season come to a close in a 13-3 loss against Freeman.
Falls City beat Auburn and Conestoga to advance to the championship round. Auburn, which beat Freeman in the first round, ended up advancing to the championship round and then defeated Falls City in both halves of a doubleheader to advance to the state tourney.
Looking at S-D-A's first game of the tourney, Anna Kastens and Grace Damme posted four of the Rockets' six hits in the loss to Falls City. Brynn Krieger and Payton Beckmann had singles. Morgan Leefers pitched and allowed six earned runs while striking out three.
S-D-A had eight hits in the second game of the tourney against Freeman. Kastens and Kreiger had four of the team's seven hits. Madi Mueller, Beckmann and Leefers had hits as well.
Leefers and Layni Nannen pitched. Leefers allowed three earned runs during her time in the circle. Nannen allowed three earned runs and struck out two.
The Rockets' final season record ended up being 4-22.
