Massie-Richards American Legion Auxiliary Unit 100 met at Post Home Oct. 4, 2016.
The meeting was called to order, colors were advanced and a prayer was read.
Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sang the National Anthem, and recited the Preamble.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer, Linda Holz, reported on the bank balance as of October 4, 2016.  Both reports will be filed.
A motion was made and passed to pay half of the poppy proceeds to help pay for the poppies that will be purchased for the next year.
Committee reports for the month:
Sunshine: Chairman Claretta Royal reported sending one get well and one sympathy card this past month and that she also made a visit.
Community Service: Chairman Jenice Bates brought up the topic of Christmas fruit plates and a list of names was comprised. Bingo will be in November for any who can help.
Girls’ State: No report.
Membership: Chairman Claretta Royal reported on paid members. Also, it’s time to start on a new year of members paying dues.
Communication: Department reported that Leadership school in September was well attended.
Jenice added bits of information from this event—such as: it’s important that the Girls State delegates know who their senators and congressmen are; flag etiquette should be provided to the schools; family members of deceased ALA members could be invited to the Draping of the Charter. District 12 reminded members that Education Week is the second week in November. We plan to deliver our Ten for Education items at that time.  
Old Business: The annual Flag Disposal ceremony will be October 11 at Post Home starting at 6 p.m.
There will be a dinner and program to follow. Members are asked to wear red jackets and bring brownies or cookies.
New Business: A motion was made and passed to increase our dues in 2018. Changes will need to be made to our Unit standing rules showing this increase.
The units of District 12 are invited to attend the 2016 Fall Round-up Saturday, October 15 at the Garland Legion Hall in Garland.
Registration is from 8:15 to8:45 a.m. Cost is $1.00 per person. Business meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. Junior members are encouraged to attend.
Members attending are asked to bring a salad for the noon luncheon. A motion was made and passed to have Unit #100 send a monetary donation for cleaning supplies for former homeless veterans starting their lives by living in apartments.
Our Gold Star Mother, Norma Jean Nisely, was recognized and presented a rose. She shared with us the meaning of coins and other items left on tombstones.
Announcements: Today’s hostess Sharon Davidson. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, November 1 at Post Home at 1:30 p.m.  Hostess will be Bev Wilhelm.

October 10—Columbus Day
October 11—Flag Disposal Ceremony at Post Home at 6:00 p.m. program and dinner to follow. Members are asked to contribute cookies or brownies.
October 15—Fall Roundup in Garland, NE. Registration 8:15-8:45; 9:00 meeting. Bring a salad for the luncheon.
October 22—“Make a Difference Day”—bring food for the food pantry to the Oct. 4 meeting
October 31--Halloween

Members are asked to keep on clipping coupons and saving pop tabs.
