Commander Reed called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. with eight members present.
After an opening prayer by Chaplain Kraenow Commander Reed led members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and our Preamble.
Minutes of the July meeting were read and approved after a motion by Finance Officer DeGolyer and Chaplain Kraenow  carried.
There was no Finance report this month as Finance DeGolyer was just returning from his recovery from surgery.
Members discussed the Otoe County Fair Veterans Parade and the diminishing crowds that are present to watch the parade.
The VFW had voted to merge the Veterans Parade with the Saturday afternoon Fair parade. It was recommended that if we did that then we would still invite other Veterans organizations to participate and that the all the Veteran Color guards and entries would lead the parade then followed by the regular parade entries.
A motion by Ron Apel and 1st Vice Commander Carlson to merge the two parades carried.
1st Vice Commander Carlson said she would talk with Mark Easter about the change we are recommending.
Members discussed the Annual Flag disposal ceremony that will be held at 6 p.m. at the Post Home on Tuesday night October 11th in lieu of our regular meeting.
All levels of Boy and Girl Scout troops are welcome to attend.
There will be a meal after the disposal ceremony and those who attended the Boy State and Girl State sessions this past summer talk to those present about their experiences.
Adjutant Wilhelm briefed on the Viet Nam Washington DC flights that are being organized and provide information on how to apply to be selected to participate.
Adjutant also briefed on pending legislation and VA policy may provide benefits to veterans for certain types of cancer if they had been stationed at Camp Le Jeuene longer than 30 days.
It has to do with water contamination during a certain and rather lengthy time frame.
Post Service Officer Darrel Johns reported that the Honor Guard had performed Military Services for 3 Veterans.
Adjutant Wilhelm distributed the 2016 Bingo report and said that due to an oversite he had not distributed the earnings from the 2015 Bingo session but is doing so now.
Members discussed this year’s Bingo and the recommended the suggested pay out to the VFW, Legion and SAL posts for staffing the bingo stand.
A motion by 1st Vice Commander Carlson and Paul Wallman to proceed with the recommended pay out to the posts carried.
Chaplain Kraenow offered a closing prayer and Commander Reed adjourned the meeting at 8:40 p.m. Next meeting will be November 8th at 7:30 p.m. with a meal at 6:30 p.m.
