On Sunday, March 2, Luther Memorial Church hosted its first God’s Work Our Hands event of 2025.
LMC partnered with Mercy Meals of Lincoln to package 11,644 meals.
The event started with lunch served to the volunteers by LMC’s Outreach Committee with the aide of a Thrivent Action Team Grant.
Packaging started at 11:15 a.m. with 64 volunteers from several generations, packaging over 11,000 meals in one and a half hours.
The volunteers mixed and packaged four dry food ingredients and then sealed them in 400-gram plastic bags.
The cost of one packaged meal is 17 cents.
Paying for these meals is part of LMC’s mission work.
Think about how 17 cents compares to a meal you might order going through a drive-in.
These meals feed a lot of people at an affordable rate.
The food is distributed by Orphan Grain Train of Norfolk to areas of need through out the world, including areas of the US affected by natural disaster.
Mercy Meals of Lincoln was organized in 2022.
Mercy Meals is operated by unpaid volunteers and enlists volunteer groups. They helped package over 350,000 meals in 2024 for local and international distribution.
Please contact Mercy Meals of Lincoln if helping feed the hungry is something your organization would be interested in doing.
