Through their Parable of Talents project, a Syracuse family has been able to donate $5,469 over the past three years.

Most recently, Cousins Gage Seelhoff and Wade Paulsen, 7th graders at Syracuse Middle School, teamed up to raise pumpkins. They took the reins from Wade’s two older brothers Seth and Drew.

The Parable of Talents project is a confirmation requirement for the boys’ church, Luther Memorial Lutheran Church ELCA in Syracuse. The project may be done at any time during the three-year confirmation course.

The pumpkins which are grown at Wade’s house in a cattle lot brought in $2,669 this year which will be divided between the Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department and Children’s Hospital for Cancer Research. The pumpkins were planted in June and the one-third acre lot yielded a wide variety of pumpkins and gourds that were sold over a two-week period for a free-will donation.

Last year, Seth raised $1,800 that was donated to Wounded Warrior Family Support out of Omaha and Drew raised $1,000 in 2021 that was donated to the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Research.

The Parable of Talent project is one of the requirements for Luther Memorial Church’s Confirmation program.

Wade, Seth and Drew are the sons of Chris and JoDee Paulsen. Gage is the son of Tim and Hillarie Seelhoff.
