John H. Harms

John H. Harms, 89 of Syracuse, passed away on September 19, 2022, at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center. He was born on October 1, 1932, to Wilkie & Sophia (Schalk) Harms in Syracuse. John was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church (Delaware), and he attended district 50 country school through 8th grade, when he started working on the family farm.

In March of 1953, John joined the Army and served during the Korean Conflict. John married Marlene Hespen on December 22, 1956, at the Christ Lutheran Church (Delaware) and to this union Donna, Randy, Sheryl and Melinda were born. John worked for Sporhase Plumbing, until he moved to Lexington and started working for Jones Plumbing. At the age of 80 he retired and moved back to Syracuse. John was a member of the VFW in Syracuse and in June 2021 he was honored with a quilt of valor, which was a very special day for him and his family.

He is survived by his wife Marlene; daughters Sheryl & Melinda; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 2 brothers and 3 sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Donna and son Randy.
