Easter event draws big crowd in Nehawka

The population of Nehawka nearly tripled to 500 Sunday when 150 kids from babies to high school seniors gathered to collect 2400 Easter eggs in four age-bracketed hunts hosted by the Nehawka United Methodist Church.

Led by Jen Fitch and Cori Vollman, kids from many area communities traded their eggs for generous prizes provided by or in memory of 68 businesses, families, and individuals. In addition to Nehawka, families came from Union, Nebraska City, Syracuse, Otoe, Johnson, Avoca, Weeping Water, Elmwood, Murray, Plattsmouth, Cedar Creek, Malmo, Papillion, and Omaha.

Following eggs hunts and scavenger hunts, kids also enjoyed pictures with Peter Rabbit, crafts in the Park Pavilion, sidewalk chalk art, face painting artistry, and hotdogs.

Special thanks to the Grateful Grillmasters, Scott Holmes Photography, Nehawka Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, more than 50 community volunteers, and the NUMC Kids’ Outreach Team.
