Brownville Concert Series presents ‘The Great American Songbook’

The Brownville Concert Series is thrilled to welcome Jonathan Karrant to Brownville. Acclaimed singer Jonathan Karrant performs some of the most beloved songs from The Great American Songbook. With a repertoire that spans classic jazz standards and contemporary interpretations, Karrant brings a modern elegance to the timeless genre of jazz. It’s sure to be one you won’t want to miss! The shows will be in cabaret on Friday & Saturday, October 3rd & 4th at 7:30pm, and in concert on Sunday, October 5th at 2:00pm. Husker Harvest Days: Where Tradition Meets Innovation

While I was voting in Washington this week, my staff had the privilege of attending Husker Harvest Days in Grand Island — an annual event that, for more than 40 years, has been a centerpiece for Nebraska agriculture. Known as the world’s largest totally irrigated working farm show, it brings together farmers, ranchers, and industry leaders from across the globe. It’s more than a farm show; it’s a gathering place where families exchange knowledge, explore innovations, and build connections that last well beyond the harvest season.

Nebraska Wheat Board names new leadership for upcoming term

Governor Jim Pillen recently appointed Amy Warner of Edison as director for District 5 and re-appointed Mark Spurgin of Paxton as District 7 director of the Nebraska Wheat Board (NWB). Both were officially sworn in during the board’s first-quarter meeting, held August 6, 2025, in Lincoln. The meeting also included officer elections for the 2025–2026 fiscal year, during which Tyson Narjes was elected Chair and Mary Eisenzimmer was elected Vice Chair.

Mums in September

September is here and cooler weather will be here before we know it. We have had a taste of fall weather, but not quite enough to officially call it fall yet. A great plant for the season is the garden mum or chrysanthemum, they provide a great pop of color late in the fall, and really bring out our fall colors like orange, yellow and red.
