Sad to report the passing of (Merwyn) Eloise (Lauderback) Stubbendeck. She was 98, the wife of Edgar, and worked for many years at Russell Stover. Eloise was well known in Unadilla and was a wonderful and caring friend to my mother and me. She will be missed.

The Massie-Richards American Legion Auxiliary Unit #100 met at Post Home on January 7, 2025. The colors were advanced, and the meeting was opened with a prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance and Preamble were recited, and one stanza of the Star-Spangled Banner was sung.
The Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society (NSAS) is thrilled to announce the 2025 Annual Healthy Farms Conference, taking place on January 31 and February 1 at the scenic Lied Lodge in Nebraska City. This much-anticipated event brings together farmers, producers, ranchers, and advocates for an inspiring weekend of learning, networking, and celebration of sustainable agriculture practices.
Planting onions from small bulbs or “sets” is not the best way to grow large onions for storage. Plants grown from sets often begin blooming in mid-summer and stubbornly refuse to stop. Once that happens, onion bulbs don’t increase much in size.
In the winter months, snow and ice can be a detriment to most anything we do outdoors. Ice on sidewalks and driveways can cause people to fall and get injured. Deicing salts are used to melt the ice and help give people and vehicles the traction they need to move forward and not fall. But, be careful with deicing products as they can be harmful to plants.
