With school and gym cancellations last week due to weather and a profound amount of illnesses, the Rocket teams had a light load last week. The ladies traveled to Milford on Tuesday for the only basketball contest. The games against Arlington on Saturday at home were postponed along with the Rocket Athletic Hall of Fame inductions.
Two Syracuse graduates are participating in Division I Track and Field at the University of South Dakota this season, Meredith Clark and Lauren Meyer. With the indoor season underway, both competed at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa on Friday and Saturday.
The Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca wrestlers picked up Thursday dual wins at home against Fairbury, 63-16, with wins by Colton Sprague, Carter Wander, Caleb Caudill, Jace Goebel, Noah McKenzie, Barret Brandt, Cy Petersen, Tieran Cox, Barrett Bischoff, Owen Wander, and against Norris, 42-30, with wins for the Rockets by Colton Sprague, Jace Goebel, Barret Brandt, Cy Petersen, Jackson Nordhues, Treyton Jones and Chance Buchanan. Barret Brandt picked up his 100th win.
With the winter Olympics coming soon, January is recognized as the National Winter Sports Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Awareness Month. Harsh winter days offer thrill-seekers a playground of opportunity to participate in extreme sports such as snowboarding, skiing, and snowmobiling.

The Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca Rocket girls’ and boys’ basketball teams played in the holiday tournament at Freeman High School on Dec. 27-28. The girls won their first game but fell in the championship game. The boys lost two games.
