Rocket boys’ basketball conduct banquet

The Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca end of the year annual boys’ basketball banquet was held on Sunday, March 20, 2022. Head coach Adam Stotz thanked his family, assistant coaches, parents and student managers for their efforts during the year. There were eight letters awarded. Three seniors will graduate, and the team returns two starters. The assistant coaches included Micah Buller, Phil Janssen and Grant Hallstrom.

Sample fields for SCN this spring

With the weather improving, you may want to consider getting your fields sampled for soybean cyst nematode (SCN) this spring if you have never sampled them or if it has been a while; especially if yields may be lower than expected or if you have areas in fields that have spots that yielded poorly. These could be hot spots for SCN. It would be good to definitely sample these areas of the field.

College Area Track and Field Notes

Nebraska Wesleyan University track athletes attended the NCAA Division III National Championship Track Meet in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on March 11-12. 2020 Conestoga graduate Bella Hogue won a national championship title in the 200m with a time of 24.66 seconds which is a new NWU school record. Bella also competed on the 6th place finishing 4x400 team that ran a 3:53.01. Her split was 57.48 seconds. 2018 Johnson County Central graduate Maddie Moran finished 4th in the 60m with a time of 7.66 seconds. With a tight race, the winner ran 7.60 seconds and 8th place ran 7.70 seconds. These athletes begin their outdoor track season on Saturday, April 2, at the UNK Invitational in Kearney.

The Palmyra volleyball team

The Palmyra volleyball team recorded posted records of 16-3 in 1950-51, 21-2 in 1951-52, and 21-1 in 1952-53. Players on the 1951-52 team included Mildred Hartman, Francie Stilwell, Marguerite Guy, Donna Smith, Marie Weatherhogg, Gera Powers, Elberta Rhoten, Marie Cooper, Wilma Dowding, Vera Thomson, Marilyn Kelly and Betty Cooper. The team was led by Coach Davis.
