Kirt Manion, CherryRoad Media A total of 15 players are out for softball at Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca High School this fall. The breakdown of that number by class has five seniors three juniors, three sophomores and four freshmen.
This past weekend the Bobcat volleyball team hit the road for a tri-match as they faced Central Christian College and Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas on Friday night. Unfortunately, Peru State lost a heartbreaker in the first match after being up two sets to zero and ended up losing in five. Sterling handled Peru State as they swept the Bobcats who fell to 0-2 to start the season.
SDA high school athletes form a tunnel for the Junior Rockets to run through during the Annual Fall Sports Night. All fall atheletes, cheerleaders, drill team and band members were announced during the evening activities.

With the school year underway, the Syracuse-Dunbar- Avoca Athletic Boosters are kicking off the Rockets’ sports campaigns. Activity passes are on sale with price points for adults and students. For a family, a maximum of two students will be charged. Rocket fans can sign up to be a Booster supporter with the deadline set for Aug. 31. Forms are available at the high school office. Sponsorship options are available at numerous price ranges with individual and family opportunities as well as opportunities for businesses. The Fall Sports Kick Off is set for Friday (tonight). Fall athletes will be announced and information will be available on the Jr. Rockets program along with an opportunity to sign up for that program. Fans can enjoy a meal at the event and pick up Rocket schedules and apparel.

The Peru State College Athletic Department and the Peru State Foundation will be hosting Dale Thomas Night on Saturday, September 3, at its first home football game. Thomas, longtime public address announcer for Bobcat football, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 1, 2021.

Indian Cave State Park’s iconic cave, home to prehistoric Native American petroglyphs, is accessible to the public again now that construction of a new boardwalk and viewing deck is complete. The old boardwalk was unusable after a historic bomb cyclone in March 2019 saturated the area and caused a landslide.
