Baker stops Peru VB in straight sets

On Tuesday, Sept. 14, the Syracuse volleyball team (6-6) trekked east on Highway 2 for a triangular with cross-county rival Nebraska City (4-4) and Plattsmouth (1-10). The Rockets took on the Blue Devils first.
Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca suffered just its first loss of the 2022 season on Friday, Sept. 16, against Adams Central, falling by a final of 29-7.

The Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca girls’ golfers played at the Johnson County Central Invitational recently at Tecumseh. Coach Sallie Agena said it was a hot, windy day.

The Rockets (7-7) came out of a triangular in Springfield last Thursday, September 15, against two similar opponents in Lincoln Christian (5-7) and Platteview (9-8) with one win and one loss. In the first game of the evening, it took Platteview three sets to overcome Lincoln Christian. Then it was the Rockets’ turn to play the Crusaders of Lincoln Christian.
The Syracuse Rocket volleyball team competed in the Bellevue East Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10. Against all Class A schools, the Rockets made it through pool play 2-1 on Friday to play in the championship bracket on Saturday in which they lost both games.

The S-D-A middle school football team traveled to Auburn on Sept. 15 and won the A game in overtime by the score of 6-0 with the lone score by Maddox Stubbendick. In the B game, the Rockets picked up a win, 14-8. Scores included a fumble return for touchdown by Phillip Armknecht and a two-point run by Jake Janssen. The last score was a run by Logan Jazbec. Coen Lindersmith also had an interception in the B game as well. The Rockets were scheduled to host Falls City on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Secretary of State Bob Evnen announced today that the final list of candidates for offices and ballot measures has been certified Friday, SEPTEMBER 23, 2022, by his office. “My office has finalized the certification of candidates and ballot measures that file with the State of Nebraska.” Evnen said, “This certification is a vital part of the process and ensures that candidate names and party affiliations are listed correctly.” The 2022 general election ballot will also allow voters to vote on two Initiatives Measures proposed by petition.

Kirt Manion, CherryRoad Media After jumping to a 13-0 lead, the Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca football team went on to a 29-7 win at David City that has the Rockets (3-0) off to their best start since 2013 when the team went unbeaten in the regular season. S-D-A recorded consecutive winning seasons in 2013 (8-0), 2014 (5-4), 2015 (6-3) and 2016 (5-4), but has not had a winning campaign since 2016 and hasn’t won its first three games since 2013.
