
Rockets pick up five dual wins, win tourney at home

Basketball action had the Syracuse girls’ basketball team falling in close games against Milford and Arlington. Milford 38, Rocket girls 26 The Rocket girls’ team hosted the Milford Eagles, 12-3, on Tuesday, Jan.
With only one game last week, the Rocket boys looked well-rested for their contest at Arlington on Thursday, Jan. 12. And, it was clear from the start that freshman Will Janssen was going to connect and his teammates kept feeding him for 25 points, 15 from three-point as Syracuse picked up a 52-41 win.

Being the spouse of a wrestling coach is not an easy job. There’s emotions, ups and downs, stress and triumph, not to mention travel.
The Syracuse S-Club Hall of Fame inductions will take place at halftime of the boys’ varsity basketball game against Logan View on Feb. 4, 2023. This will be the 5th class inducted since the inaugural hall of fame class in 2018. This year’s class is represented by one coach and one athlete. Coach Leon Bose, a popular coach and teacher for 20 years at SDA and Jess Kirchhoff ‘98, will be inductees for 2023. The Syracuse SClub welcomes these inductees and their families to join us in honoring them and looks forward to another special evening paying homage to those who laid the foundation for Rocket athletics.

The Syracuse wrestling team placed ninth out of 21 teams with 94.5 points at the Norm Manstedt Invite at Columbus. The top five teams at the event were Lincoln East, Columbus, Valentine, David City and Pierce. Earning medals for Syracuse were:
Syracuse 56, W-C 19 The Rockets struck early against the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines on Tuesday, January 3, in Wilber. Sophomore Jayden Meyer started the scoring at the 7:40 mark and the Wolverines didn’t see their first basket until 6:23. Juniors Eva Brammier and Rylee Seelhoff also found their stride behind the arc in the quarter as coach Andrew Pryor commented, “It was awesome to see us knock down shots and get some confidence going on the offensive end. Our defensive pressure and intensity led to some favorable scoring opportunities early on, which helped build our confidence for the rest of the game.”
