Three Syracuse wrestlers earned their way to the state tournament during action at the district wrestling tournament at Central City on Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11, while a number of athletes fell just one win short of state.
The Syracuse Rocket girls’ basketball team had a busy schedule last week finishing out its regular season schedule with an overtime loss against Auburn and wins against Nebraska City and Conestoga. The Syracuse Rocket boys’ basketball team faced off with Auburn, Conestoga and Lincoln Lutheran last week. Boys Vs Auburn (15-6) After watching the Bulldogs in the last few state championship games, the Rockets took a play right out of their playbook to take a 27-20 lead at halftime on Tuesday in a home contest. As the Bulldogs are known for doing, the Rockets slowed their game down and took time off the clock with each possession.
Syracuse 48, Yutan 43 As the Rockets are finding their rhythm, they traveled to Yutan on Thursday, Feb. 2, to face Yutan for the second time in a week. Beating Yutan in the first round of the Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament 4231, the Rockets held on for another win over the Chieftans, 48-43. Senior Jase Voorhees paced the Rockets with 18 points.
