The Syracuse Rockets boys’ cross country team kicked off their 2025 season on Thursday, August 28, at the Weeping Water Invitational, held at the Cass County Fairgrounds. The meet gave Syracuse’s reserve runners an early chance to compete against area varsity competition.
The Syracuse girls’ golf team teed off its 2025 season on Thursday, August 28, hosting their own invitational at the Syracuse Country Club. With a completely new roster this fall, the Rockets fielded four varsity golfers, finishing just one player shy of posting a team score.

Nebraska sophomore quarterback Dylan Raiola had earned another preseason honor, as he was named to the 2025 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Watch List.

Sixty years ago, the 1965 Syracuse American Legion Post 100 Midget baseball team won the Class B State Championship title game played at Grant, NE. On their way to the title with a 23-3 record, they defeated Plattsmouth and Harlen in the District, Strang and Blue Hill in the Regional and finally Maywood and Papillion at State. Team members were Mike Lankton, Robert Peterson, Jay Van Housen, Larry Wellman, Perry Woods, Dan Crownover, Ricky Patton, Dick Morrissey, Doug Severs, Tom Patton, Bill Formanack, Dale Kruse, Steve Dean, Bob Brandt. They were coached by Roger Beckman and Tom Lewis and it was the first year of coaching for both.
Nebraska Public Media will televise six Nebraska and Creighton volleyball home matches this fall.
