Rocket resilience propels team to champ round

After absorbing a second-round loss to Malcolm, the Syracuse American Legion Seniors baseball team staved off elimination and advanced through the losers bracket to reach Tuesday’s championship round of the Area Tournament at Tri County.Monday action saw the Rockets fall behind 3-0 to the Chick-Fil-A Seniors only to roar back for an 8-3 lead and then hold off serious threats to that advantage over the final two innings to claim an 8-5 victory.Chick-Fil-A put runners on base and had chances to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings.

Rockets close out campaign one game shy of state

The Syracuse American Legion Juniors baseball team finished just one win shy of the state tournament following action at the Area Tournament on Tuesday, July 16, at the Syracuse Sports Complex.After falling 8-0 in the first game of a doubleheader against Tecumseh, the Syracuse team rallied back and took a late-game lead.Bryson Jones earned a walk to start the top of the eighth inning and Kyle Holz followed that with a single.

Syracuse Juniors post three wins, one away from state

With three victories under its belt, two of them coming by eight runs or greater, the Syracuse American Legion Juniors baseball team stands one win away from a trip to the Class C State Tournament.Syracuse, which is hosting an Area Tournament this season, opened with a win over Bennett/Palmyra, then edged Tecumseh and beat Louisville/Weeping Water on games played Friday through Sunday.Twelve runs on 11 hits powered the Rockets past Bennet/Palmyra on Friday.
