Brock Goebel completed a dominant four-match run through the Class C 106-pound weight bracket and added his name to the list of Syracuse state champions during action at the 2025 NSAA Individual State Wrestling Championships at the CHI Center in Omaha on Saturday, Feb. 22.
Syracuse grabbed the 13th win of its boys’ basketball season on Friday night with a road win over the Conestoga Cougars.
The Rockets swept a pair of games against Auburn and Conestoga during girls’ basketball action last week.
Syracuse picked up a third-place team finish and qualified six grapplers for the state tournament during the district wrestling tournament at Malcolm on Saturday, Feb. 15.
The Syracuse S-Club honored new inductees into the S-Club Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Feb. 8. This year’s honorees are Mark Hrabik, a 29-year leader of the Rocket boys’ basketball team and one of his teams, the 2005 State Champion Rocket boys’ basketball team. The 2005 squad broke a 45-year championship drought with a title run which served as a perfect example of team-earned success. Coach Hrabik’s tenure as the Rocket coach spanned from 1992 to 2021. During that time, the Rockets had 394 wins. Coach Hrabik’s teams featured many all-conference and all state players. From 1997 to 2010, the Rockets own seven conference titles, four district titles and five district runner ups. The team had 14 consecutive 15-win seasons and was ranked inside the top 10 of the metro newspaper rankings for 10 straight years.
On Tuesday, Feb. 4, during halftime of the girls’ varsity basketball game against DC West, Jacque Wallman and Doug Magill form First Bank of Nebraska presented the Syracuse school with a check for $825 from funds made from the Rocket debit card program. The Syracuse cheer team accepted the donation.
The Rocket girls’ basketball team battled three foes last week with losses to Douglas County West and Yutan and a win over Logan View Scribner Snyder. Those results moved the Syracuse season record to 9-11.
Syracuse added to a fantastic 2024-25 wrestling season with its third-place finish at the Nebraska School Activities Association State Dual Championships on Saturday, Feb. 8, in Kearney.
After opening the Capitol Conference tournament with a set back against Fort Calhoun (13-5) by the final score of 47-31 on Jan. 28, the Rocket girls’ basketball team fought back with a consolation round victory over Conestoga, 62-55, on Jan. 31.
Syracuse picked up the 11th win of its boys’ basketball season during first round action of the Capitol Conference tournament by dominating Louisville, 61-24, on Jan. 27, on the home floor.
