The Syracuse Rockets finished as the runner up at the Capitol Conference Middle School Tournament with 262.5 points. Individual medal winners for Syracuse were Levi Woods, 4th; Dylan Woods, 4th; Briley Tams, 3rd; Turner Zahn, 1st; Kirsten Knake, 3rd; Grady Armagost, 2nd; Dominic Horner, 3rd; Will Lessmann, 1st; Tayt McKenzie, 1st; Kamden Diekmann, 1st; Bentley Wymore, 3rd; Izic McKenzie, 4th; Dalton Gartner, 2nd; Wyatt Grotrian, 4th; Tate Starzec, 1st; Charlie Simon, 2nd; Irvin Royal, 3rd; Baylor Borer, 2nd; Tearra Marrs, 1st; Jaxsen Walters, 1st; Brayden DeMello, 4th; Abe Fass, 2nd; Lincoln Bassinger, 2nd; and Aiden Velazco, 1st.

Syracuse 6-8th grade wrestlers went undefeated in pool play, qualifying them into the GOLD bracket at AAU State. Syracuse first met up against Wahoo, winning 45-26, and advanced to the championship match, defeating Beatrice 33-31 to place 1st in the gold bracket.

The Peru State Bobcats have qualified for the 2025 NAIA Men’s Basketball Championships and will play in the first round as the No. 13 seed in the Liston Quadrant of the 64-team bracket against No. 4 Bethel (Ind.) on March 14.

Syracuse traveled to Lincoln Lutheran for the subdistrict tournament on Feb. 25 and 27 and came away with one win in two games to finish the 2025 boys’ basketball season with a final mark of 15-10.

Syracuse High School graduate Max Brammier made history on February 27, breaking the 32-year-old Nebraska Wesleyan University record for career pitching appearances. Brammier, a 2020 Syracuse High School alum, took the mound for his 51st career outing in an 11-10 victory over Hamline University.

Kennedy Stanley, a 2022 graduate of Syracuse High School, recently wrapped up a successful indoor track season competing for Doane University, Crete, Nebraska. The junior pole vaulter consistently placed first or second throughout the season, with heights ranging from 11’3.75” to a season-best 12’3.5” at the NAIA Indoor Nationals on Thursday, February 27. Her performance earned her a 7th-place finish on the national stage.
