As Nebraskans, we value resourcefulness and selfreliance. We also care for our neighbors. We recognize that extraordinary times—like a natural disaster or a global pandemic—warrant extra assistance.

We are two-thirds of the way through our short session. The rest of the session is going to fly by, and we are all eager to get legislation passed that helps our districts and all Nebraskans.

Like you, I am torn. I tell myself I’m not going to watch the turmoil unfolding in Europe on television any more! Then I wonder how the refugees are faring.

Russia’s attack on Ukraine is an assault on freedom everywhere. As leader of the free world, the United States must issue a strong response that will isolate Russia – and the world must follow suit.

This week marked the last week of hearings for the 107th Legislature. Next week, we will begin full-day floor debates. Previously, during hearing days, we had floor debates in the mornings and hearings in the afternoon. This column will highlight four of my bills that advanced this week during morning debate.

Nebraskans know every drop of water is precious. Agriculture is our top industry. It makes up 20 percent of our economy, and it generates one in four jobs in our state. Access to water makes this possible. We have the most irrigated acres of cropland in the country. Three of eight acres of farmland in Nebraska are irrigated.

This week, on Feb. 24, the Judiciary Committee heard three pieces of pro-life legislation– LB 933, LB 1086, and my LB 781.

This week Russia escalated their ongoing attacks on Ukraine with an invasion. I support Ukraine as they defend their sovereignty against Vladimir Putin’s evil and reprehensible invasion, and I stand with Ukrainians in solidarity.
