The holiday season is full of examples of Nebraskans taking the time to help one another. Just think of the bells we hear and the red Salvation Army buckets we see at the entrances of the stores where we run our daily errands.
Christmas is going to look different for many Americans because of ongoing supply chain challenges and soaring inflation. We have seen shortages of items such as appliances, jewelry, electronics, holiday food items such as turkey, and even Christmas lights and trees.
Soon, I will gather with state and local officials to celebrate the opening of the Lincoln South Beltway. This 11-mile, four lane freeway connects U.S. Highway 77 to the Nebraska Highway (N-2). It’s expected to divert over 75% of the truck traffic to the new highspeed facility, saving significant travel time and bringing much needed relief to a congested thoroughfare through the city of Lincoln.
As the holiday season approaches, I wanted to take a moment to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas. Christmas is a time for celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ and for coming together with loved ones to share in the joy and hope that this holiday brings. I hope that this Christmas season brings you a sense of peace, joy, and gratitude.
Nearly two weeks prior to the first day of winter, we have already seen snow, ice, and freezing conditions across the Third District. While precipitation is needed to relieve Nebraska’s fourth driest year on record, and the snowfall may have many dreaming of a white Christmas, colder than average temperatures are expected to accompany already historically high energy costs this winter.
Last week, I was feeling like a Grinch! Come to think about it, how do I know how a Grandma Grinch feels? At any rate, nothing seemed to be going right. Somewhere along the way the appointments to install my new TV, my new computer and my new printer were lost in space.
In Nebraska, the crops we grow, livestock we raise, goods we manufacture, and innovations we develop make an impact far beyond our borders. Nebraskans have long known that. Increasingly, the world does too. Growing Nebraska’s international presence has been a pillar of my administration. Since I took office, we’ve made trade missions to 11 different countries to forge new partnerships and increase investments in the Good Life. As a result of these missions, our state has become its own global brand.
A month from now, we will welcome a new year and a new Congress with a new majority. For the 118th Congress House Republicans have put forward our Commitment to America agenda.
