American Legion Post 8 Commander Bruce Madsen welcomed members of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary posts from the Department of Nebraska District 12 to the Nebraska City Veterans Memorial Building on Saturday, March 15, for the annual district convention. The event brought together Legion and Auxiliary members from Beaver Crossing, Bennet, Cordova, Denton, Eagle, Elmwood, Garland, Greenwood, Hallam, Havelock, Hickman, Louisville, Milford, Nebraska City, Nehawka, Palmyra, Plattsmouth, Pleasant Dale, Seward, Syracuse, Talmage, Union, Utica, Waverly, and Weeping Water. The convention featured morning presentations by Jim Kuhn on the Nebraska City Veterans Memorial Building Project, Leon Haith on the 50 Mile March Foundation, and Jason Stiener on HEROSTOCK, as well as a Post Everlasting Memorial Service. Afternoon activities included separate business meetings for Legion and Auxiliary members.

Syracuse fifth grade teacher Kari Schroeder was recently recognized with a 2025 National Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award by Scouting America’s Cornhusker Council. Schroeder was surprised at a Middle School assembly on February 19, 2025. The Award was presented by Cornhusker Council Scouting America Scout Executive, Jeff Johnson; District Director: Seven Feathers & Prairie Winds, Will Cover and District Director: Salt Valley, Lee Peterson.

The Better Ba Cs 4-H club made homemade dog treats for anyone with a dog in the club to take home. They learned how to work together and use ingredients from home to treat their dogs. It is great that the Better Ba Cs 4-H club is so active.
