Talmage American Legion Post 246 has selected Barrett Bischoff as its 2023 American Legion Cornhusker Boys State Representative. Bischoff is the son of Todd and Carrie Bischoff from Cook. He is the grandson of Gordon Hopp and Shari Timm, the late Ardith Hopp and Allen and Delores Bischoff.

The Nebraska Center for the Education of Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired (NCECBVI) hosted a “Hawaiian Paradise” prom on Thursday, April 20. Guests enjoyed a meal with family and friends, followed by dancing and the coronation of the prom King Austin Roberts from NCECBVI and Council Bluffs Community Schools and Queen Joseline Ramirez from ESU 4. NCECBVI staff and students planned the event, Lourdes Central Catholic and Nebraska City High School students loaned some decorations. Volunteers before and during the event came from Lourdes Central Catholic, Delta Gamma, and Nebraska City Public Schools. Also pictured from the event are the prom court.
The Nemaha NRD will resume its weekly beach monitoring program for Kirkman’s Cove, Wirth Brothers, Iron Horse Trail Lake, and Duck Creek Recreation Area Lakes this May. Weekly samples will be collected and analyzed for toxic algae and E.coli from May through September.

Thanks to perseverance, teamwork, and innovation, a 1920s era ELI windmill once again spins in the skies over Nebraska City. The restored and regalvanized mill was the site of an afternoon ribbon cutting on Thursday, April 27, near the Greenhouse at Arbor Day Farm.
The Nebraska Department of Education and the Nebraska International Language Association have awarded 101 Seals of Biliteracy to 98 Nebraska students this semester. Two Palmyra High School students— Andrew Moyer and Oscar Thomas—received Seals of Biliteracy in Spanish this spring.

The first institution of higher learning in Nebraska will hold its 2023 commencement on Saturday, May 6, at 10 a.m. Peru State’s annual event will be held in the Al Wheeler Activity Center on the College’s campus. Nearly 400 master's and undergraduate degrees will be conferred.
