County commissioners approve KENO grant request for Kearney Hill fort project
A fort-themed pavilion at Kearney Hill Park is closer to becoming a reality after the Otoe County Board of Commissioners approved an $8,000 KENO grant request from the City of Nebraska City to complete funding for the construction project.Rex Nelson of the Kearney Hill Neighbors group told the board that the park has great views of the Missouri River Valley, which the group hopes will attract people to the park and the pavilion.Nelson said the Paul, John, Anton, and Doris Wirth Foundation granted $40,000 to the project, and an additional $2,000 has been pledged by residents.
Four students, two counselors from Syracuse attend NAYI
Four high school representatives and two counselors from Syracuse High School attended the week-long Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute on the East Campus of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln last month.High school representatives for Syracuse were Ty Gorton, Emma Houghton, Hailey Kirchhoff and Tyler Sears.
