As Nebraskans celebrate the holidays and ring in a new year, Nebraska State Troopers will be diligently working to keep roads safe throughout the state. “This time of year is full of joy and celebration,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol.
Earlier this month, the Nebraska Department of Education released the Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System (NSCAS) results that provide insight into how students who tested are performing academically as part of our COVID-19 recovery efforts.
Food intolerance and food allergy are common these days. When I was a kid, no one asked about nut allergies or gluten sensitivities when inviting you to a birthday party. You could bring homemade snacks to school. Peanuts were served to everyone on airplanes. Today, we are constantly reminded to be aware and take precautions to help prevent exposure for those who are intolerant or allergic.
Nonprofit Tabitha, Nebraska’s industry-leading Senior Care provider, honored Dayna Swenseth, Director of Nursing as Tabitha’s annual TEAMember of the Year. Swenseth, shares her time and talent at Tabitha Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, Nebr. She is responsible for leading all nursing units and was spotlighted for her successful management of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Students from Skyview Learning Academy have been learning the past couple months about wildlife through the 4-H program “Wildlife Sciences,” said Erin Steinhoff, Otoe County 4-H Extension Assistant. Students in the fourth and fifth grades learned about five different classes of vertebrates - mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, and reptiles; what make each class different from the other classes; life cycles; and about needs and habitat requirements.
“The Christmas Song,” perhaps better known as “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire,” is a beloved tune cowritten in 1945 by Mel Tormé and Robert Wells. The song was reportedly penned on a hot July day and the writers had to think cool thoughts to evoke a feeling of the holiday season. This Christmas classic became one of the defining performances of Nat King Cole’s career, as he is one of the most popular artists to perform the song and recorded it on at least three separate occasions.
The Syracuse City Christmas Tree would be incomplete if it weren't for the elementary school kids. They were in charge of decorating the tree. Kids made the ornaments in the classroom and then, together with their teachers, placed them on the tree.
Syracuse Gifts4Kids recently completed another successful season of gathering donated gifts to brighten Christmas for those in need within the community. Jill Crook, who works on Gifts4Kids alongside Sam Haag, recently sent out the following message of thanks to the community for another job well done.
