Fly rod building class

Why purchase a new fly rod when you can fish one with the satisfaction of knowing you’ve built it yourself? The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, in cooperation with Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing and the Cornhusker Fly Fishing Club, is sponsoring a fly rod building class for beginners this winter. The class will be held six consecutive Wednesdays at 6 p.m.

Nebraska 4-H Livestock Achievement Program offers new in-depth learning experiences

Nebraska 4-H members across the state were recognized as “members of excellence” for their participation in a new livestock program launched in 2021. The Nebraska 4-H Livestock Achievement Program was designed to promote all educational aspects of 4-H livestock projects including selection, production, leadership and exhibition by recognizing youth striving to importance in their livestock project knowledge and leadership.

Retirement wishes

Gina Essink and Tammy Hays will be retiring from the Otoe County Farm Service Agency December 31, 2021, with nearly 70 years of combined service. Over the years, Gina has assisted numerous producers in southeast Nebraska with various farm loan programs, having worked in Nemaha, Gage and Otoe County over the years. Tammy has assisted Otoe county producers to better understand the rules and regulations of the CRP program as well as many other farm programs along the way.
