Frontier Coop recognizes Jerry Niederklein for his service
Jerry Niederklein, a Commercial Truck Driver from Syracuse, received the Frontier Community Service Award which honors employees for their service and for making a difference in the communities. For many working Americans, April 15 is synonymous with taxes. But taxpayers may be happy to learn that they have two extra days to file their returns in 2018. That’s because this year April 15 falls on a Sunday, and April 16 is Emancipation Day, when the District of Columbia celebrates Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the District of Columbia Compensated Emancipation Act, which freed more than 3,000 slaves in D.C.
SDA school marks School Board Member Week
School Board Member Week is January 30-February 5. According to the Nebraska Association of School Boards, over 1,700 volunteers serve on school boards throughout Nebraska. At Syracuse Dunbar Avoca Public Schools, six volunteers serve and include Andy Burr, Barry Janssen, Greg Mueller, Katie Tonkin, Brianne Wilhelm and Ed Zastera.

Since its discovery as a new species in 2019, soybean gall midge continues to be found in new counties across five states in the Midwest. For some growers, the presence of soybean gall midge had a significant impact on soybean yield. The persistence of this new pest in existing areas and its presence in new counties highlight the need to stay up to date on the latest research-based information.
Syracuse Area Health NorthCampus Clinic, Pharmacy opened in December
The Syracuse Area Health North Campus Clinic and Pharmacy opened on Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, on Highway 50. The updated facility replaces the healthcare system’s current Weeping Water Clinic and offers enhanced family medicine services, X-ray imaging and a retail pharmacy. The new clinic and pharmacy are located at 7512 Highway 50, Weeping Water, Nebraska; a location chosen for its accessibility and convenience.
