Tabitha, Nebraska’s industry-leading Senior Care provider, offers a variety of support groups throughout Cass, Otoe and Sarpy counties. Helpful for many people processing their grief, grief groups give participants the opportunity to connect with others who are experiencing kindred feelings of loss.
During 2021, Nebraska City Utilities workmen replaced 12 miles of rural lines in the western part of Otoe County in order to improve reliability of electrical delivery for customers. The new lines use upgraded technology that stands up to ice and winds better than the previous lines, said NCU General Manager Jeff Kohrs.
On Friday, Feb.11, the fourth S-Club Athletic Hall of Fame class was inducted during halftime of the boys’ varsity game at the Syracuse Middle School Gym. Inductees included Mark Weiler, Dean Farley, Renee Cheney, and the 1963 undefeated football team.
Governor Pete Ricketts will host a “Water & Taxes” town hall in Nebraska City today (Friday, Feb. 18).
Otoe Country 4-H’er Bailey Boitnott was recently honored with the Romeo 4-H Scholarship. One male and one female from the state of Nebraska were awarded a $500 scholarship to be used for post-secondary education. The award was presented at the NAFM Convention in Kearney, NE. Mr. Romeo of Nashville, TN attended the presentation and was filled with stories of his upbringing in Omaha, NE, and the progression of his career. He commended both students on their involvement with 4-H, their community, and encouraged them to continue these practices in their adult lives. The NAFM was extremely supportive and encouraging to these young people; their passion for promoting fairs, 4-H, and community was obvious.
Chemigation is the practice of applying agrichemicals to cropland using an irrigation system to distribute both the water and chemical. Anyone wishing to apply fertilizer or pesticides to land or crops in or with water through an on-farm irrigation system must obtain a chemigation applicator certificate.
Taylor Mead of Syracuse has been named to the dean’s honor roll for the Heider College of Business at Creighton University. Taylor is the daughter of Tammie Heller of Syracuse and Ron Mead of Des Moines, Iowa.
As the worldwide population ages, vision loss from eye disease is becoming a major health concern. More than 40 million people are of the age 65 or older, and that number is expected to more than double by 2050. By that same year, the number of Americans with agerelated eye diseases is also expected to double, and the number of people living with low vision is projected to triple.
